Consensus is that she had a cardiac ‘event’which caused blood to leak into her lungs.

After two weeks in ITU, then on ward, then watched in the Heart Centre.

They still don’t know what caused it but apparently some of the medication she takes for anaemia, depression, fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis has damaged her stomach, but as she’s now on more tablets and morphine pads any drug assessment will take some time.

By all accounts she’s had everyone from cardiology down to dermatology (she has a wart on her right hand) do tests.

The outcome is she’s home and her heart is dying.

She fell over a couple of hours of getting home but that was just weaknesss in her legs for not walking much in the last two weeks. Thankfully she just lost the load baring in her legs so they just folded under her and she landed on her bum. I got her up and she was determined to keeping going with what she was doing.

Thank you so much to everyone for their thoughts and well wishes. I told her you were asking after her and got to telling her about some of the people on here such as Immoral Minority, Zoidberg (and Lunar), etc...

You guys and gals are brilliant.

Glad to hear she’s home, but sorry to hear the mediocre prognosis. Send her our wishes and prayers from the Birmingham on the other side of the pond.

Thanks mate.

Unfortunately the heart deteriorating is pretty much the nature of the beast after such an episode.

Very sorry to hear that your mom hasn’t been well. Glad she is home with her loved ones, and am hoping the doctors will find an effective treatment.

Lost my mom a couple of years ago. Don’t think I will ever be the same.

Cherish your time together, and create as many happy memories as you can. They’ll eventuality hurt as much as help, but being able to focus on the good times is better than the alternative.

Best wishes from your friends in western Canada.

It’s tough seeing our parents get older and weaker. So sorry to hear it - cherish her as much as you can now (and I know that you are already).

I missed that there was anything wrong, but I’m glad she’s back home. Hopefully she keeps getting stronger. Attitude makes a huge difference.

Cheers mate.

I’ve got a really crappy family and told her she ain’t going anywhere as she’s the only one I like. Lol.

She’s had fibromyalgia for the last 15 years and has been virtually bed bound and the medication means she’s lucid for three hours a day off and on over a 24 hour period so no more new happy memories really.

My mom is dealing with serious health decline too, but she’s 1000 miles away. So my heart goes out to you. I hope yours has a peaceful go of it from now on. I’m glad you can be there with her.

I’m sorry to hear of the prognosis, but glad she is home. May you both cherish what time there is left and extract the best of it.

That’s the thing with parents, you know it’s coming because it has to, it’s just when it does it takes a lot out of you.

That is a sad situation indeed. She is lucky to have you there with her for those few fleeting moments each day. We can hope that the rest of her day is spent, at the very least, in relative comfort and that someday you can reminisce of happier times past.

For the most part I end up being a dick because my step-brother (works part time) and sister (who’s learning difficulties and development impaired disabilities, doesn’t work at all) live elsewhere so I’m the first port of call or my mother, disabled step-father and ageing grand father who argues about anything for seemingly the sake of arguing.

Yet they get all the, ‘hey you, yay’, because they visit once a week or month while I’m trying to also work full time nights.

I’m struggling. Both me and my sister admitted to each other we’re not ready to lose parents. It doesn’t matter that we’ve known it’s coming. Oh well, better find a way to get ready, I guess.

Nobody is ever ready or prepared and from what I’ve seen from many people is the more you try to prepare for it, the harder it hits when it does happen because you’ve geared yourself up for what to do and when that after the ‘when’, you don’t know what to do.

Just take each day at a time.

Glad to hear she’s home and feeling pretty determined. Hopefully she can at least stabilize for a bit with no more unexpected events, despite her current situation. She sounds like a tough gal, I’m rooting for her!

Sorry to hear that mate. Sounds like your mum is a fighter, seeing how she wanted to keep going after falling down.

I hope for the best for her. My best wishes, to you and your family.
